We invite you to join us in our commitment to student success! The Athletics Academic Advisor provides proactive services and programs that support and enhance LSSC's student-athletes' educational experiences.
The Advisor builds supportive and personalized relationships with the student-athletes through admissions, academic planning, and maintaining accurate records that comply with NJCAA/FCSAA policies and standards.
This position will collaborate closely with the Athletic Department's administrative and coaching staff to assist in meeting LSSC's retention and completion goals.
This position will provide weekly on-campus office hours to student-athletes at both Leesburg and South Lake campuses with the option of one remote day.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities ADVISING Utilize intentional developmental advising methods focused on student success, skill development, curricular understanding, athletic eligibility, and life-long learning in both group and individual meetings.
Maintain a historic record of all individual meeting notes and materials using the latest technology including Starfish and Canvas.
Register Student-Athletes for classes, ensuring students are in correct classes per registration form, in order to meet and maintain NJCAA/FCSAA eligibility requirements.
Review and ensure that Student-Athletes are in the correct courses after each academic term after grades have been posted; complete schedule changes as needed.
Engage in outreach efforts by communicating effectively with current and prospective student-athletes, athletic staff, college employees, and community members in-person, by phone, in writing, and by appropriate electronic means, adhering to privacy of student records requirements (FERPA), and NJCAA/FCSAA bylaws and policies.
Serve as a referral agent for students in academic distress, which includes monitoring and record keeping via LSSC's early alert system.
Monitor and advise student-athletes on withdrawal requests and schedule changes in accordance with NJCAA/FCSAA eligibility requirements and compliance; update schedule in Banner as needed.
Deliver Academic Advising presentations aimed at reinforcing student academic and career exploration for AA, AS, Certificate, and Baccalaureate students.
Serve on department and college-wide committees, councils, and work groups.
PROGRAMMING Work in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director of Athletics to ensure policy consistency and NJCAA/FCSAA compliance is applied to daily operations.
Participate in professional development and/or service to the College.
Attend the NJCAA/FCSAA compliance and certification workshops.
In collaboration with the Director/Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Athletics Department, create, facilitate, and assess onboarding sessions, activities, and group advising sessions for student-athletes.
Assist with recruiting events, data collection, student tracking, and record maintenance using a CRM, and provide feedback for the College's continuous improvement initiatives and NJCAA/FCSAA compliance.
Participates in the assessment of measurable learning outcomes.
Contributes to department and division strategic planning and program review initiatives.
Qualifications MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
Master's degree preferred.
Minimum Training /
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in student services, advising, or athletics compliance in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Ability to successfully maintain strong working relations with students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
Intermediate ability level in computer software, including MS Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and TEAMS) Ability to effectively facilitate advising workshops and/or presentations to both large and small audiences.
Intermediate ability level in the use of office equipment including computer, phone, fax, and network copier/printer Ability to exercise confidentiality.
Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting varied deadlines.
Ability to work independently and multi-task, with attention to detail and with a high level of accuracy.
Promote a common purpose consistent with stated College goals and demonstrate a commitment to students and the learning environment.
Possess the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks Demonstrate the ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
